Even though I haven't been updating this blog recently, I have still been writing. I just managed to make three different posts. I swear, the motivation to write disappears when one loses access to the internet.But, finally...
I just saw the film Billy Elliot, for the millionth time. Have you seen it? It is such an amazing movie! Aside from me finding some difficulty understanding the accents of the actors, the themes explored in the film resonate well with me- for obvious reasons. I look forward to the time when my family will be proud to see me in whatever capacity I find myself, as an openly gay man.
I find myself watching and re-watching films with gay themes recently. It's My Party, Prayers for Bobby, For the Bible Tells Me So, Boys Don't Cry, Milk, Noah's Arc- Jumping the Broom. I lived without representations of queer culture and people for such a long time, that I revel in my newfound collection of timeless films that inspire me to be proud of my sexuality. I once thought it was my greatest burden, but it is now turning into one of my strengths.

I hoard my books. They some of my most precious materials. Tales of glbts finding themselves, coming out, raising children and coping within their societies.

ReplyDeleteI don't know of any good books. I'm not really a reader, but I would be willing to peruse some pages if you'd like to suggest some good reads :)
Indeed the accents were a bit hard to understand, was they Scottish or Russian; I can't tell.
ReplyDeleteApart from the few comedic moments, the message from the movie is very clear. One thing I have came to realize about fathers world wide, especially those in Jamaica, they will never come to term of accepting their sons as being gay. His peers would most likely ignore him.
The same can be seen with the father in the movie.
One movie I recommend you see is a movie from Showtime called Soldier's Girl. Its a very powerful documentary telling the tale of a transgender having a relationship with a soldier shortly after DADT was enforce. In the end......
